Facts

The Federal Trade Commission filed complaints against Mikael Marczak and Sanjay Agarwalla as part of the FTC's efforts to protect consumers from online scams. The complaints alleged that the defendants posed as major computer security and manufacturing companies to deceive consumers into believing that their computers were infected with viruses, spyware, and other malware.

Result

The parties settled. Agarwalla was required to pay $3,000 and Marczak was ordered to pay $984,721.
