In January 1997, plaintiff, a 28-year-old female was hired as a receptionist by defendant general manager Shawn Bell of defendant Silverado Marketing Services Inc., a food distribution company. Bell allegedly sexually harassed plaintiff by continually asking her out for dates, making remarks about her body and clothing, and leaving a suggestive notes on her desk. Defendant Bell also stated in front of others that plaintiff would soon be "pregnant with my baby again." Plaintiff resigned in November 1997. She then returned to work. However, in January 1998, plaintiff resigned again because of defendant's alleged continued sexual harassment.
Settlement Discussions
The plaintiff suggested to defendant Silverado Marketing prior to trial that any reasonable offer would be considered, but Silverado Marketing refused to make any offer. Plaintiff's settlement demand to Shawn Bell was $500,000, but Bell did not make any offer. Motion for new trial is pending.
