On Dec. 31, 1993, plaintiff Vincent Cauchi, Jr., a 34-year-old electrician, was attending a New Year's Eve party at defendant Crown Sterling Suites Hotel's restaurant. An altercation occurred in which the plaintiff suffered a facial injury. The plaintiffs, the injured man and his wife, brought this action against the defendant based on negligence and loss of consortium theories of recovery. The plaintiffs contended that the defendant should have provided more security at the party. The defendant contended that it provided ample security in the form of off-duty police officers and hired security guards.
