On July 30, 1994, plaintiff Louise Lopez, a 44-year-old unemployed woman was a passenger in a vehicle. The defendant, Tuan Lam, rear-ended the vehicle in which the plaintiff was riding. The plaintiff brought this action against the defendant based on negligence. The plaintiff contended that the defendant was negligent; and that she was permanently injured and would suffer neck pain and headaches for the rest of her life (31 years). The defendant contended that the plaintiff's vehicle stopped suddenly, and she was not injured in any way.
