Facts

Plaintiff Tom Sanders sued PG&E Corp. and several others alleging defamation and wrongful termination. Sanders claimed he was wrongfully terminated after he reported and objected to PG&E's conduct, omissions and deficiencies that allegedly led to its repeated and continuing violations of the Energy Reorganization Act of 1974.

Damages

Sanders sought $2 million for general and compensatory damages as well as consequential damages, special damages, damages for severe emotional distress, punitive damages, attorney fees and costs, and other relief.

Result

PG&E won summary adjudication on the defamation claim, and thereafter secured a settlement on the remaining claim on the eve of trial.
