Dale Mayberry owned the Internet domain names RL.com and Mat.net. Mayberry and the assignee of the rights to recovery of the domain names, CRS Recovery Inc., filed suit against John Laxton and Northbay Real Estate Inc., alleging conversion, intentional interference with contract, and unfair business practices.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiffs alleged that the domain names were stolen and reassigned to a registrar in China absent any authorization, and that defendants unlawfully acquired and declined to return RL.com.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Defendants contended that Mayberry had abandoned RL.com earlier than defendants obtained it.
Result
The jury determined that defendants had committed conversion of RL.com, and the court issued a permanent injunction against defendants.
