According to court records, on Nov. 2, 2004, at around 8:30 a.m., defendant David L. Bright and plaintiff Sunae Yang were involved in a car accident. Plaintiff Clarissa Paik was a passenger in Yang's vehicle.

The plaintiff claimed that defendant's van ran a red light at the intersection of Los Robles Avenue and Maple Street in Pasadena. Defendant's van crashed into the right passenger side of plaintiff's automobile, causing plaintiff's car to spin 180 degrees, eventually stopping on the street's center divide.
