According to the court, plaintiff Joann Francis, a dependent adult, was a chronic schizophrenic. On July 31, 2004, plaintiff was taken to defendant BHC Alhambra Hospital to be kept against her will and treated with anti-depressant and anti-psychotic medications after a determination that she was delusional and suicidal. The plaintiff was later moved to defendant Kaiser Foundation Hospital on August 5, 2004.
Result
A settlement was agreed upon amounting to $350,000, with plaintiff settling with defendant BHC for $25,000. BHC in turn, received a dismissal with prejudice. Plaintiff also received $325,000 from defendant Kaiser.
