Facts
On Aug. 6, 2006, plaintiff Helen Lee resigned from her independent contractor position at Farmers Insurance Co. after her district manager allegedly created a hostile work environment and sexually harassed her. Prior to her resignation, Farmers had conducted an investigation into her claims and concluded her allegations were uncorroborated.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
The plaintiff contended she was an employee of Farmers and Yang's and that they violated the California Fair Employment and Housing Act.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Defendant Farmers contended that Lee was not an employee of Farmers and that Farmers had conducted a reasonable investigation into Lee's complaints.
Settlement Discussions
Defendant offered $100,000.
Damages
The plaintiff sought $4 million plus for lost wages and emotional distress.
Result
The jury returned a verdict for the defense.
