Facts

Raley's grocery stores owns the Nob Hill Foods and Bel Air grocery chain in California and Nevada. In 2007, a Raley's employee complained to Amador County that one of the store's managers tried to dissuade him from reporting an injury, leading to an investigation, which allegedly revealed numerous workers' compensation law violations.

Contentions

PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTIONS:
Monterey County, along with five other counties, filed suit against Raley's, alleging illegal handling of workers' compensation insurance claims and unfair business practices.

Result

The parties reached a settlement for $580,000, plus $150,00 in suspended penalties.
