Facts

The Federal Trade Commission accused Jeremy Nelson of defrauding consumers with false promises of debt relief and charging them without their consent. The FTC claimed that Nelson violated federal laws by making false claims, causing unauthorized debits from consumers' bank accounts, and illegally charging advance fees. The FTC also charged Nelson with calling telephone numbers on the National Do Not Call Registry, calling consumers who told him not to call, and other violations.

Result

The parties settled for $4.6 million. Nelson was also banned from selling debt relief services, telemarketing, and making robocalls.
