PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Bryant claimed that San Diego Gas & Electric terminated him because he was a whistleblower who brought attention to its allegedly illegal collection activities. He argued that San Diego Gas & Electric did not comply with certain technical regulations regarding utility bill collection practices.
After his termination from the company, Bryant sued for wrongful termination and retaliation.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
San Diego Gas & Electric claimed that Bryant was fired for inappropriate conduct that violated its company policies, including harassing his subordinates.

Settlement Discussions

Bryant demanded $1.3 million to settle.

Result

The jury ruled in Bryant's favor, awarding him a total of $864,000 in compensatory damages for past and future wages and emotional distress. The jury also awarded him an additional $1.3 million in punitive damages, bringing his total recovery to $2,164,000.
