Patricia Hudson filed a lawsuit against the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority in relation to an incident that took place on a bus.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiff, who required a wheelchair to help her move, alleged that on June 17, 2009, she got on a bus operated by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Authority. She alleged that while on the bus, her wheelchair fell onto her and that the bus driver did not help her or lock down the wheelchair. Further, she argued that the driver was driving too fast and turned sharply, which resulted in her wheelchair falling over. She alleged violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act, California Unruh Civil Rights Act, Government Code, Dept. of Transportation Regulations, Disabled Persons Act, and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. In addition, she claimed negligence, intentional infliction of emotional distress and per se negligence.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Defendant argued that the bus driver asked plaintiff if she needed help in locking down her wheelchair and that plaintiff rejected the driver's attempts.
Injuries
Hudson suffered aggravation of her pre-existing complex regional pain syndrome, knee injury, post-traumatic stress disorder, lumbar sprain, lumbar strain and other sprains and strains.

According to a settlement, Hudson received $500,000
