Facts

On Nov. 19, 2007, a San Mateo County Transit District bus hit Amy Chan as she walked across an intersection. Chan died from the injuries she suffered. Chan's widower, daughter, and son sued the transit district and the bus driver, Juan Perales, for motor vehicle negligence.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
The plaintiffs contended that Chan was properly within the intersection.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
The defense denied the allegations and implied that Chan ran into the intersection.

Damages

The plaintiff sought $206,345 in medical expenses, $31,091 in funeral expenses, and other non-economic damages.

Injuries

The claimed injuries included coma, death, degloving injury, foot injury, loss of society, and traumatic brain injury.

Result

The parties settled for $2,300,000.
