On Nov. 18, 2007, around 5:20 p.m., Anil Mohin was driving his 2005 Mercedes-Benz westbound on Second Street in Los Angeles. He made a left turn on Figueroa Street and collided with plaintiff Armando Jauregui, who was driving a 2003 Kia eastbound on Second Street. Jauregui had the green light. Plaintiffs Christine Jauregui, 11, and Monica Borja, were passengers in the Kia. Plaintiffs sued defendants Anil Mohin and John Scholz, who co-owned the 2005 Mercedes-Benz.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
The plaintiffs contended that defendant made a negligent left turn.
Damages
Plaintiffs Armando Jauregui claimed $13,147 in medicals, Monica Borja claimed $220,702 in medicals, and Christine Jauregui claimed $2,690 in medicals.
Injuries
Plaintiffs claimed soft tissue injuries such as back, neck and wrist sprains, a leg fracture, skin grafts, facial and dental injuries, and injuries to the chest and abdomen. Plaintiffs also claimed emotional distress.
Result
The parties settled for $512,000, with Borja receiving $475,000, Armando Jauregui $23,500 and Christine Jauregui $13,500.
