Facts

Robert Zargarian and Lilit Grigorian sued Dr. Armen Kassabian, in connection with medical treatment he received from defendant.

Contentions

PLAINTIFFS' CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiff Zargarian presented to defendant, an urologist, on July 15, 2011, complaining of urinary tract issues coupled with a fever and inability to urinate. Defendant placed him on Flomax. On July 17, the doctor prescribed plaintiff pain medication due to plaintiff's complaint of pain. Days later, plaintiff went to the emergency room at the Olive View-UCLA Medical Center in Sylmar where he was diagnosed with Fournier gangrene, which was a necrotizing lesion of his scrotum and genitalia--a potentially life-threatening disease that progresses rapidly. Plaintiff underwent surgery. He survived the disease, but the surgery left his groin deformed. Plaintiff alleged the doctor's failure to timely diagnose his condition and treatment constituted medical malpractice. Plaintiff Grigorian filed a loss of consortium claim.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Defendant denied violating any standard of care, claiming his diagnosis and treatment were appropriate at the time under the circumstances. Particularly, defendant claimed plaintiff presented no signs of the disease when plaintiff visited defendant's office. Defendant denied plaintiffs' claims of impotency.

Injuries

Zargarian claimed the surgery left his groin deformed. His wife, Grigorian, claimed Zargarian's body was so deformed, that she found it repugnant and offensive. Grigorian claimed she could no longer be intimate with him.

Result

The jury found in favor of the urologist.
