Facts

Michael Scales, an African-American, worked for Sierra Restroom Solutions LLC as a driver. He allegedly endured racist comments, epithets and harassment from his supervisor and coworker during the one and a half years he worked for the company. His supervisor used the N-word to refer to him with others, and in another instance, a co-worker flaunted a swastika tattoo and talked about the "need to keep the white race 'pure.'" Scales complained to his supervisors, but they proved futile. He was fired two days after he made a complaint, the second time that month. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a complaint against Sierra Restroom for discrimination based on race.

Result

Sierra Restroom agreed to pay $50,000 in settlement.
