Renee McKay sued Daniel Quiroz, based on a traffic accident.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiff claimed that on Sept. 22, 2012, she was driving through an intersection, when she was hit by another vehicle, driven by Quiroz. McKay argued that defendant ran a red light and caused the accident.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Quiroz claimed that he had a green light when he entered the intersection, and that McKay ran a red light. Quiroz also argued that McKay's knee problems had not been caused by the accident.
Settlement Discussions
McKay demanded $15,000 to settle. Quiroz offered $6,000.
Damages
McKay requested $6,150 for her past medical costs, $80,000 for her future medical costs, and $46,000 for her pain and suffering.
Injuries
McKay injured her neck, back, and hip. She had pre-existing arthritis in her knee, which she claimed the accident exacerbated.
Result
The jury ruled in favor of the defense.
