Teresa Cardenas, 10, through her guardian, Marilyn Zadra, and her father Reyes Romero, filed suit against Michael Horton, Shane Horton, and the City of Los Angeles.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiffs claimed that on May 14, 2012, Cardenas was walking to school with her father when they were struck by a motor vehicle.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Defendants denied plaintiffs' allegations, and asserted various affirmative defenses.

Injuries

Cardenas suffered a lacerated spleen and scalp. She also wounded her tongue and suffered multiple abrasions.

Result

The parties settled for $500,000. Cardenas received $330,000 and her father received $170,000.
