Facts

Lauren Young, a 19-year-old hostess and receptionist, was driving her 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse east on Ventura Boulevard when she was rear-ended by a 2002 Lincoln Town Car. The driver of the Lincoln, Paul Sharratt, was driving in the course and scope of his employment with Associated Entertainment Releasing Inc. The impact of the accident pushed Young's vehicle into the vehicle in front of her. It also caused a tire iron that was loose in Young's car, to strike her in the back of her head. In addition, her face struck the steering wheel, causing loss of consciousness for several minutes. Young sued Sharratt and Associated Entertainment Releasing Inc. alleging vehicular negligence.
