Facts

Miriam Sosa, 22, sued Yong Zhou for negligence after the vehicle Zhou was driving struck Sosa as she was walking her bicycle through a crosswalk on Fulton Street at 34th Avenue, in San Francisco. The collision occurred on August 1, 2013.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Sosa contended that Zhou negligently operated the vehicle.

DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
Zhou admitted liability but contested Sosa's injuries.

Injuries

Sosa claimed she suffered a closed head injury as well as cuts and abrasions to her body. She was taken to the hospital via ambulance and diagnosed with mild traumatic brain injury and post-concussive syndrome. She claimed ongoing cognitive impairment, including headaches, poor attention and concentration, trouble word finding, memory deficits, fatigue, anxiety and irritability.

Result

The parties settled for $650,000.
