Joshua Daniels sued City of Oakland, Sonny Sowles a/k/a Sonny Hightower, Walter Garrett, and Dameion Thomas, in connection with an alleged beating.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiff claimed that Oakland city workers, the named defendants, threatened to beat plaintiff, and did beat him, after he spit a piece of gum into a trashcan outside City Hall. One of the defendants then allegedly slapped plaintiff's phone from his hands when he began recording the incident. Plaintiff claimed another defendant then beat plaintiff while he was unconscious and on the ground. Plaintiff sued the city and the named defendants for alleged civil rights violations, municipal liability, negligence, assault and battery, and false arrest and imprisonment.
Result
The city agreed to settle Daniels' action for $205,000.
