Facts

On June 20, 1997, plaintiff alleged he was stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Milwaukee Street and Ohio way when the defendantÆs car struck the rear of his car.

Settlement Discussions

There was a statutory offer of settlement of $90,000. The defendants final offer was $11,000 before trial.

Injuries

The plaintiff alleged soft tissue injuries to the back and neck and lumbar disc problems. Chronic pain. There were medical expenses in excess of $30,000. The plaintiff, who is self employed, alleged that he lost his business as a result of his injuries. He claimed past and future economic losses of $400,000 to $700,000.

Other Information

The jury found that the plaintiff met the threshold. The plaintiff will file a motion for a new trial on damages.
