Raymond Vaca filed a class action against International Paper Co. and TIN Inc., on behalf of himself and similarly situated International Paper and TIN employees.

Contentions

PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
Plaintiff is a current employee of International Paper. He accused defendants of failing to pay overtime, and failing to provide workers with the statutory meal or rest periods. He asserted causes of action various law violations, including failure to pay overtime in violation of Labor Code Sections 510 and 1194, failure to provide meal or rest periods or compensation in place of those periods, knowingly and willfully failing to comply with the wage statement provisions of the Labor Code, and for violating California's unfair competition law. Plaintiff later amended his complaint to add a cause of action for violation of the Private Attorney General Act.

DEFENDANTS' CONTENTIONS:
Defendants disputed plaintiff's claims.

Result

The parties reached a $2.875 million settlement.
