Facts
Plaintiff Ron Vidor asserted that he entered into a written contract with defendant CSC Sisters. The contract provided that the defendant hired the plaintiff to serve as a camera and steadicam operator for its movie, "The Sisters." Pursuant to the contract terms, defendant also agreed to rent the plaintiff's camera equipment.
Before filming began, defendant discharged the plaintiff. The plaintiff sued for breach of contract.
Contentions
PLAINTIFF'S CONTENTIONS:
The plaintiff contended that the defendant breached the contract without good cause. It thus owed the plaintiff the amount he would have received for his services and the rental of his equipment had he not been discharged.
DEFENDANT'S CONTENTIONS:
The defendant contended that the contract was not binding because plaintiff misrepresented his qualifications during its negotiation. The defendant was entitled to terminate the plaintiff, and did not owe him anything.
Damages
According to defendant, plaintiff claimed damages of at least $250,000, consisting of lost wages as a result of the alleged breach, incidental dental damages, other lost job opportunities and statutory waiting time penalties. Plaintiff also sought unspecified attorney's fees.
Result
The judgment was for $41,737.
