Facts

Plaintiff Mirror Worlds LLC, founded by David Gelenter, a computer science professor at Yale University, filed suit against defendant Apple Inc., alleging violations of patents owned by plaintiff.

The patents at issue involve features characteristic of a Mac computer including "Cover Flow" and "Time Machine." Cover Flow allows users to skim contents, which appears to be similar to flipping pages of a book. Time Machine is an automatic backup system.

Result

The jury found in favor of Mirror Worlds and ordered Apple to pay $625.5 million in damages for the violating patents.
