SAN JOSE - To his harshest critics, Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Paul R. Bernal is one of those prosecutors-turned-jurists who forget they no longer work at the district attorney's office.
Such critics point to a series of appellate court reversals in the past few years - including a murder conviction last year - as proof of his pro-prosecution bias.
