RIVERSIDE — Judge Samuel Diaz Jr. said he didn’t join the bench to make friends and thinks he’s proved that by limiting delays in cases.

“It’s pulling teeth,” he said before acting out hypothetical exchanges with attorneys. “‘Your honor, I have a prelim.’ ‘No you don’t.’ ‘I have a doctor’s appointment.’ ‘Why didn’t you tell me that in the beginning? No you don’t.’ I don’t make friends.”
